45 rpm record plug. when grammaphone records were in high use, 45s were a popular format for so-called "singles". the rca company made a record player that could hold many 45s, dropping them onto the platter and playing them one at a time. this required a large hole in the middle of the record. but these 45s could not be played on traditional record players with their smaller spindles, so these things -- record plugs -- were manufactured and sold to make things compatible. |
